Andreas Quirrenbach University of Heidelberg Optical/IR Interferometry from 2009 to 2029 Interferometry at visible and infrared wavelengths has become a productive tool of stellar astrophysics. Initial observations of active galactic nuclei have also been carried out. The next decade should see an improvement of the current instruments and facilities, but their fundamental limitations will remain. The science case for a sensitive optical interferometer with kilometric baselines is strong; such a facility could be realized as an international project in the time after 2020.
